Doer of the Week
Aleisha Gibbons of Dalton, Massachusetts
After exploring law school, sales and marketing, and teaching, Aleisha Gibbons' career was at a standstill -- nothing felt right. "Then, the wonderful idea came to me to start Berkshire Organics (berkshireorganics.com), a local- and organic-food home-delivery service," Aleisha says.
Still working, she struggled to get to local farmers' markets on Saturday mornings, but was passionate about giving her idea a chance. "I became even more determined as I filled my cart with produce at crowded grocery stores, then watched as my paycheck was consumed in the flames of over-pricing."
Today, Berkshire Organics serves as a link between a dozen local farmers and nearby consumers in Massachusetts. Currently, Aleisha offers seven variety baskets: mixed fruits, vegetable, local organic breads, eggs, flowers, and maple syrup -- which she delivers to homes every one or two weeks -- and hopes to offer local cheese and meat in the coming months. Aleisha was thrilled to discover that sign-ups had tripled in just three weeks -- a sign that this healthy, convenient, and affordable service is surely becoming a reality.
