More About Us...
Aleisha Gibbons started Berkshire Organics in May 2008 from her home in Dalton, MA. On May 30th, Berkshire Organics made its first delivery to 34 customers throughout the Berkshires. By mid-July, Berkshire Organics delivered to over 120 residents. As the business continued to grow, Gibbons hired two employees and gained two volunteers to help her with the deliveries each week. Berkshire Organics moved to a commercial space on Main Street in Dalton in late July 2008.
Gibbons is a native of Sheffield, MA. She attended Mount Everett Regional School through the 8th grade and then transfered to Berkshire School, a private co-ed boarding school also in Sheffield. Gibbons grew up on the campus of Berkshire School where her father was a teacher, coach, and advisor. Her mother worked in admissions and later the school library.
Gibbons went on to graduate cum laude from Berkshire School. She attended college at Davidson College in North Carolina and Roanoke College in Virginia. After graduating from college, Gibbons attended Roger Williams School of Law for one year before realizing the practice of law was not her true calling.
Following in her father's footsteps, Gibbons became a history teacher, head girls cross country coach, track coach, advisor, and dorm parent in a boys dormitory at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA for two years. She then returned to the Berkshires in 2005 to marry her husband, Brian.
Upon returning to the Berkshires, Gibbons could not get back into teaching right away so she took a position as an executive assistant which developed into a sales and marketing role. Although the position was stressful, Gibbons now realizes how much the job prepared her for owning her own business.
Today Gibbons continues to reside in Dalton with her husband Brian and dogs Rocky and Kousa. Her parents, Ronn and Sue Cabaniol live in nearby Adams, MA.
Berkshire Organics' goal is to help reduce the distance food travels from the farm to your table which is why we work with many local farms within a 50 mile radius. We also work with an organic supplier who also shares the same vision by purchasing produce as close to New England as possible.
By delivering baskets on a set route, Berkshire Organics reduces traffic and pollution created from numerous individual grocery store trips.
Our reusable delivery containers are made from 100% recycled materials. By using these bins we reduce the use of plastic bags which clog our waterways, spoil landscapes, harm animals, and end up in landfills for thousands of years.
